“Surface Tension: Pattern, Texture, and Rhythm in Art” is the name of the terrific exhibition that I viewed on 9/2/2010 at the University of Richmond’s Joel and Lila Harnett Museum of Art.  The exhibition features supreme works by a few dozen artists including icons such as Roy Lichtenstein, Josef Albers, and Victor Vasarely.

On 8/28/2010 I saw Close’s retrospective show at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

Chuck Close is one of those big-time, world-regarded artists whose work is always engaging to everyone regardless of education, experience, or intellect. (And that statement is one of those rare accurate hyperboles.)

Talk about a happy and satisfied audience – that’s what I saw on 8/15/2010 at the Richmond Jazz Festival at Maymont.

People were everywhere on blankets and grass and fold-up chairs enjoying wonderful simultaneous lineups on two stages sponsored by Altria and Dominion.
