Artworks can transport you. On 8/29/2011 I viewed the Pine Camp Arts and Community Center’s “Summer Artist Series” exhibition in the lobby of Richmond City Hall: bright colorful paintings by Rosanah Lopez-Haugh and Faithe Nonell-Nickens along with Earle Taylor’s photographs of exotic people.

My favorite is his black and white photo entitled “Ipanema Girl.” She’s exactly what I conjure whenever I hear the signature song of my favorite sultry summer siren: Astrud Gilberto.
