A long, long time ago Howard Roark was my initiation to the significance of architecture as a supreme art form, and just a few days ago my attendance at the 25th birthday celebration of BCWH Architects (8/5/2011) was my initiation to a nice way for an architecture firm to celebrate an anniversary: by spotlighting student artworks along with the firm’s own work.

Artworks by students of Virginia Commonwealth University, Maggie Walker Governor’s School, and Collegiate Lower School were given featured wall space at the event’s Studio 8 West venue. I’m a big fan of BCWH, and one of their partnerships that will be visible to everyone is with Steven Holl Architects that will design VCU’s forthcoming Institute for Contemporary Art – sure to be a signature structure for the region.

Happy 25th BCWH!
