“Surface Tension: Pattern, Texture, and Rhythm in Art” is the name of the terrific exhibition that I viewed on 9/2/2010 at the University of Richmond’s Joel and Lila Harnett Museum of Art.
The exhibition features supreme works by a few dozen artists including icons such as Roy Lichtenstein, Josef Albers, and Victor Vasarely.
And there was also a call-home surprise artwork: “Zimbabwean Striking Scorpion,” 2000, screenprint on paper, by Janet Gilmore-Bryan – a work from the University’s Joel and Lila Harnett Print Study Center. Janet and I hadn’t known that her work was there, and I got to be the person to bear the good tidings.
It’s of course my favorite work in the exhibition.
