A singular vitality tool is working its absolutely intoxicating magic on a pair of poles-apart enterprises: Austin, Texas and the ROC (Richmond Outreach Center). The vitality tool is music: toe-tapping, head-swaying, hand-clapping, face-lifting, jaw-grinning, don’t-want-it-to-stop, first-quality music. I saw it for myself on 4/6-4/8/11 in Austin and then on 4/9/11 at the ROC.

On 4/3/2011 I saw the current show "Virginia Revisited" at the Gay Community Center of Richmond: a gathering of a few dozen artworks by wonderful local artists – all for sale to benefit the Center.

The one-in-a-million best artists are nuts – at least compared to others. They’re driven, compelled, and unhindered by practical or personal matters. Their muse causes a continual juggernaut. That theme hit home for me on 3/31/2011 in “Something Intangible” - the Firehouse Theatre Project’s current production.

Live cameras rolled as the tattoo needle buzzed on Brooks Smith’s ankle at CultureWorks’ 3/31/2011 press conference. We were at River City Tattoo Company and neighboring Stronghill Dining Company to unveil 10 confirmed tattoo virgins who were now getting inked to confirm their convictions that arts and culture need to be permanent and enduring parts of great communities.

“Put us in your will, and we’ll pray you live forever,” is the tagline that Alice Lloyd College used to use on its planned giving materials. At our 3/31/2011 press conference CultureWorks announced that we are now providing free will-based estate planning for persons over 50 who believe in the enduring value of arts and culture and who agree to CONSIDER putting The Community Foundation’s Arts and Cultural Endowment in their estate plans.
