About the "Real Tattoo"

CultureWorks is partnering with River City Tattoo Company to offer this unique donor benefit option – the first donor benefit tattoo in the Richmond region. Marking the human body is the oldest, most personal and most enduring form of human expression. The image for the donor tattoo – three parallel lines – is patterned directly from the oldest tattoo ever discovered – on a 5,300-year-old man discovered frozen in a glacier. Although the tattoo's original meaning is unknown, the design is both eloquent and enigmatic – just as is often the case with great artworks.
