The CultureWorks Annual Grants Program supports smaller 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, with limited resources and operating budgets less than $500,000, as well as funding for local artists. With few sources of support available in the Richmond and Tri-Cities region dedicated to helping these segments, the Grants Program is able to fulfill this need and invest in quality programs and initiatives for our community.

To date more than $778,000 has been invested in the region since 2010.

Funding is available for two focus areas – Building Capabilities and Cultural Equity.

A goal of CultureWorks is to ensure everyone in our community has access to arts and culture, and the opportunity to express their culture through the arts. Cultural Equity grants support organizations or artists conducting arts and culture projects or programming that reach underrepresented populations based on race, ethnicity, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender, socioeconomic status, geography, citizenship status, or religion. “CultureWorks mission is to drive a vibrant community by inspiring, enabling and cultivating world-class arts and culture. To achieve that, arts and culture must be for our entire community. ” said President Scott Garka.

The Grants Program provides funding for artists, organizations and initiatives specifically benefiting the cities of Richmond, Colonial Heights, Hopewell and Petersburg, along with the counties of Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent and Powhatan, and the town of Ashland. Eligible grant applicants must be headquartered in or have their arts and culture concentration primarily in the Region.

Funding must be used during July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2020.

Specific grant guidelines for artists and organizations are available here.

Applications are due March 28, 2019 at 5 pm
